Lucas, padre

To grow and develop healthily, the human being, like animals and plants, needs time and calm. Love, confidence in his innate wisdom and in his unique processes, and a vision of what completes him (instead of what he lacks) are the essential nutrients that should be present in any educational "soil".

Heike Freire’s talks are events of approximately one and a half hours, with thirty minutes for discussion and unlimited capacity. They are aimed at various audiences (teachers and teachers, mothers and fathers, professionals in pediatrics, architecture, psychology, biology …) and present the key aspects of a specific topic, which can be adapted according to the needs of the attendees.

The audience is invited to participate from the beginning. Their testimonies and memories are woven with the concepts, experiences, examples and anecdotes offered by Heike Freire, to build a unique experience, full of emotion and connection, of thought and feeling, that transcends the limits of the physical space in which it is framed.
Whenever possible, Heike Freire likes to offer her talks and workshops in outside, in a natural environment, under the trees as the masters and teachers of ancient times used to do.

Below we have detailed some of the most requested topics:

Green Pedagogy: Educate in the 21st Century

Nature is an inexhaustible source of health, well-being, learning and creativity that has no substitute. Experiences in open spaces are unique and impossible to experience anywhere else. Direct interaction with the environment is essential for the healthy development of children and young people. If an emotional bond with the planet is establish during the child-youth development stage, it brings creativity, vitality and resilience throughout life. The bond is also the basis of a positive relationship with the environment, based on respect and care.

The Magic of Nature

Natural environments offer educators unique and irreplaceable tools to carry out their work in harmony with the natural processes of children and youths. Outside, the opportunities for Sensorimotor discovery, surprise, adventure, magic, mystery and so much more are multiplied. Biological and environmental phenomena awaken our sense of wonder, they start the engine of natural curiosity, personal motivation and autonomous learning. They also encourage sociability and mutual support among students.

Playgrounds Alive

Until recently, school yards hardly existed in the educational imaginary. They were a mere space-time for “leisure and rest”, with an uncomfortable function of drainage: they were meant to drain the tensions and frustrations accumulated during sedentary classes in the classroom. What is worse, it is not really clear to anyone if this worked! Today we know that, far from being neutral, what happens in the yards has a direct impact on the development and learning of children and young people. The grounds have become a key piece in the introduction of nature and transformative practices in centers.

Nature and Screens.
How to combine them?

According to the Spanish Association of Pediatrics, girls, boys and adolescents spend an average of more than a thousand hours a year in front of screens, be it TV, computer, tablet or mobile. In the last two decades, families and schools have been literally invaded by new technology: the number of electronic devices available has multiplied by five, and the exposure time is increasingly difficult to estimate. However, the problem of technology can become an opportunity to strengthen family relationships or to rethink the methods of organizations and schools.

The Link to Earth in Maturity

Even in adulthood nature positively impacts the prevention and treatment of numerous physical and psychological ailments. Working on the conscious cultivation of our bond with the Earth, through the six windows that unite us to the world, can be a profoundly regenerating experience, which will, undoubtedly, strengthen us. Through practices and experiences perfectly adapted to each person and each group, Green Pedagogy offers a unique framework for human development with meaning, well-being and joy.

Children's Autonomy:
Prepare them for life

The desire to make decisions, act and develop in life, appears very soon in our history. Although fragile and dependent, children and young people want to feel capable of doing things for themselves. The modern lifestyle leaves them with few environments where they can exercise their autonomy safely. Passive and vulnerable, due to an excess of protection by their caregivers, or abandoned to their fate, without adequate accompaniment, the development of autonomy indicates an intermediate path based on trust.

For a Biodiverse School

People are not very different from trees: we are born and grow from a tiny seed, following the course of our nature. We sprout leaves and flowers and when we are ripe, we produce fruits. Every living being on this planet is unique and unrepeatable. To grow healthy and happy, you need an environment where you can live and which responds to your needs. A bio-centric and bio-diverse school, human, social and ecological, neither exclusive, nor restrictive, knows how to take advantage and make ALL our differences shine, because they represent the richness of life.
